My favorite thing today is this photograph from Sally Mann:

Her photos are all along this grain, most of them featuring poor, Southern children. This one’s probably amongst most famous shots:

One of my (oldest) all-time-favorite YouTube videos: George Washington. He’ll kick you apart, ooh!
(Also, it’s been more than ten months since I first posted I’m On a Boat, so it deserves an honorable mention here. Because I was THAT obsessed with it. And kinda still am. …Just watch it, okay?)
An opinion article posted today on CNN regarding why, despite our (comparatively) good health care in the US, so many Americans still die early.

I have an iPhone and this article on eHow.com is the easiest guide to making your own ringtones from iTunes music files! Yes, love it!
FRIENDS is my all-time favorite TV show; no shame, no shame! I’ve recently been re-watching season 8, which is the one where Rachel is pregnant. One of the best episodes of the season is when she tells Ross she’s going to be having his baby. Here’s a clip:
Ha! The songwriter responsible for ‘White Christmas’ actually hated Christmas. Now that’s a Christmas miracle. No, really, do you think you could write something so memorable, famous, hopeful, and happy about something you hate?

The Office is one of my all-time favorite shows, and Ben Franklin is one of my all-time favorite episodes. It’s just genius, beginning to end.

Michael Scott: “A guy’s night out; a G-N-O if you will; a gno. Actually it’s more of a guys afternoon in; G-A-I; a gai. Not… that’s a… not gay. It’s a bridal shower for guys; a guy shower — an hour long shower with guys.”

Michael Scott: “Wow, Ben Franklin, you’re really kind of a sleazebag.”
You can probably find the full episode on the awesome site SideReel.com.
Stumbled upon a cool site called Letters of Note, which is a collection of letters, postcards, and other correspondence of famous people. One I liked was from David Bowie:

The story on the Worcester Cold Storage Fire from the 4th got me thinking about the plethora of abandoned factories all over the northeast. The best thing people can do with these old structures is reuse them, most often for offices or open-concept loft apartments. I found a fun article on lofts just of this type, detailing what the structures had been used to produce before they became homes.
I missed this the first time around the media circuit, but the ASPCA magazine recently featured the story of a kitten who was abandoned in a Boston mailbox.

Postina, later renamed PD for “postage due” by her new owner, was discovered by a postal worker in June. She’s found a home with a New Hampshire postal worker and is healthy and happy, but helps highlight the problem of animal abandonment and mistreatment here in the US.
